Welcome to Africa! You arrive at the airport in Windhoek and receive your rental car. The diverse Namibian capital is the largest city in the country with around 250,000 inhabitants and is picturesquely situated in a valley basin at an altitude of 1650 meters, lined with the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas Mountains in the south. To the west, the Khomas highlands extend towards the Namib and the coast. As the political and economic center of the country, Windhoek has a lot to offer. Discover, among other things, the Christ Church, the boulevard, the equestrian monument and the district of Klein Windhoek, as well as the district of the Bantu-speaking community Katatura as a contrast.
In the morning you leave Windhoek and drive to the southern part of the Etosha National Park. The park is one of the most important game reserves in southern Africa. With around 22,270 km², the Etosha Park is about the size of Hesse and the largest game reserve in Namibia. More than 144 different animal species are at home here. The park doesn’t have the Big Five, but you can spot four of them there: elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards. But also giraffes, wildebeests, jackals, hyenas and all antelope species, from the stately eland to the tiny Damara Dik-Dik, find their habitat in the Etosha National Park. Some of the most common but also some of the rarest animal species are presented in the park. The main feature of the park is a salt pan that is visible even from space.
Go on a safari in Etosha National Park on this day. Your safari tour begins early in the morning in your comfortable rental car through the Etosha National Park, which will take you the whole day. Enjoy the wonderful landscape and with a little luck you will see giraffes, elephants and lions. Have your camera handy for stunning photos.
In the early morning you will go on a safari tour through the Etosha National Park. Today you have the opportunity to experience the diversity of the animal world again and capture breathtaking impressions. Have your camera close at hand for spectacular photos. Afterwards you leave the national park and drive to your accommodation in the northern area outside the park. On the way you get a nice insight into the nature of Etosha and enjoy the wonderful landscape.
Today you leave the Etosha region and drive to your accommodation in Rundu. With almost 82,000 inhabitants, Rundu is the second largest city in Namibia after Windhoek. The city on the Okavango is the economic center of the Kavango region in northeastern Namibia and the city with the highest population growth. The river is the lifeline and main attraction of Rundus and the region at the same time. The city is located almost 1,100 meters above sea level on a scenic hill. On arrival you can relax by the pool or in the late afternoon experience the water world of the Kavango on a romantic boat trip at sunset.
After breakfast you will drive along the Caprivi Strip, where you will have an endless view of the tall grass that contrasts with the red sand. Wonderful landscapes pass you by. About half way from Rundu to the Kongola region, you will find Popa Falls, where it is worth making a stopover. The Popa Falls are impressive rapids in beautiful surroundings and offer fantastic photo opportunities. After arriving at your destination, you have the option of taking a boat trip on the Kwando River. Some of the last large herds of elephants live in this area and if you are lucky they can get within 2 meters of the water so that you can see and photograph them well. In the river itself there are many hippos that are spotted every now and then.
You can organize this day according to your wishes. Take a game drive in Bwabata National Park or Mudumu National Park, for example. A very unusual landscape for Namibia: Reet islands, rivers and marshes characterize this area. The National Park is very rich in game and is home to lions and elephants as well as rare antelopes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and over 430 species of birds. Your accommodation also offers many options for a relaxing day under the African sun.
In the morning, leave your lodge and continue to the Chobe River near the Ngoma Border Gate. Expect a unique and miraculous experience when you visit the camp. This region is Namibia’s own version of the Serengeti and offers a rare experience. With a little luck, you can see large herds of elephants, buffalo and antelopes. Activities can vary according to the season but will always amaze and fascinate you. A wildlife and bird watcher’s dream, Chobe River Camp is the ideal place to relax from the world famous Chobe Nature Reserve, home to one of the largest concentrations of elephants on the African continent. The camp is also the ideal location for day trips to Victoria Falls, just 150 km away.
Leave your vehicle at Zambezi Mubala Camp south of Katima Mulilo to travel downstream and enter the enchanted Mubala world. Relax on your balcony and enjoy the calm of the river. The Zambezi Mubala Lodge is a bird lover’s dream and is home to over 450 species of birds. One of the largest colonies of crimson bee-eaters in Africa is located here in spring. These bright and cheerful visitors nest on the banks of the majestic Zambezi between August and December, filling the air with sound, activity, and color while flashing purple breasts. In the late afternoon, walk the elevated path between the bungalows, spend the last hours of the day on a sunset boat ride, stroll along the riverside to visit the bee-eater colony, kick back in the open bar, or go fishing on the river, where catching and releasing tiger fish is a popular activity. Enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings and the rich colors of life going by.
